In Loving Memory of

Leroy Robert Hughes

Roy and Claire Hughes

Roy and his beloved wife, Claire, were among the pioneers who believed in Whispering Winds before it became a reality. For decades, they faithfully served as volunteers, generous donors, and devoted members of our camp family. Their unwavering support helped sustain Whispering Winds through some of its most challenging seasons, including the 2003 fire, the growth of our camp, and the recent pandemic.

One of our final conversations with Roy was when he stopped by to make his year-end gift. As we thanked him and Claire for their faithfulness, Roy smiled gently and said, “As Scripture says, does a mother forget her child? I will never forget my own.” His words beautifully reflected the deep love he carried for this ministry.

We are profoundly grateful for Roy and Claire’s legacy of faith, generosity, and service. Their family has graciously designated Whispering Winds as a place to honor Roy’s memory through gifts made in lieu of flowers.
